Exhibition: Simeon John

For the months of June & July, Edward.S is proud to be exhibiting "Skin," an evocative and thought-provoking exhibition by the renowned artist Simeon John. This exhibition delves deep into the intricate layers of identity, culture, and human experience through the medium of art.

Unveiling "Skin": An Exhibition by Simeon John

This series called “Skin” is an exploration of identity. The cast are people who have wandered into my world, by chance or providence. They all chose what they wanted to express and these images capture where our conversations have led. The pursuit of identity inspires us to ask deep questions. Throughout my life I’ve harnessed art to help me discover layers of myself during the process of capturing the identity of others. Navigating dark places and the turbulence that is parked within us, embracing the unexpected and the dance of vulnerability. Unveiling the masks we wear and arm wrestling with the others we find underneath, collecting all the pieces of us we excavate, the beautiful and the broken. All part of the process in the making of “Skin”. Contact us to book a private viewing.

About the artist

Simeon John is a multidisciplinary artist of Dominican descent and born in London. He has been a Sydney resident since 1999, resonating with the diversity of the cultural fabric that shapes this major city. Simeon draws inspiration from his fascination with observing individuals discover and express their identity and spiritual essence through fashion, ritual and theatrical play. He also seeks to capture the infinite sparks of connection that build a community. Self-taught, he works in photography, film and visual art, alongside his experience as an events and music producer, all round entertainer and renaissance man. Playing the alchemist for stories unprocessed and unexpressed, his work often bears advocacy in its purpose, giving form to stories and voice to the marginalised and misrepresented.
